When you hear a new song, are you immediately thinking about aesthetic concepts to go along with it?
Absolutely, all the time. When Katy plays a song for me or we listen to things together, and she does the same, like, literally the other day we heard this new song for her next album and I was like, oh my god I see the video, and she was like I see the video too, and we were totally on the same page. It’s always so inspiring. With music in general, even if it’s not her music, I always think of videos and I always think of costumes and I always think of the art direction of it all. “My grandma, who is 91 and so rad. She’s beyond rad. She’s all there, remembers everything, lives on her own. but what I love about her is that she just doesn’t care. She doesn’t give flying’ flip about anything, and she has the funniest reactions and retorns. She also has the coolest outfits.
